Recommended Local Services

hi res-34.jpg
Being a force free canine professional means that I often get asked for recommendations of other services that will not negatively affect a dog in other areas of their lives.

Below is a list of services I would be more than happy to trust my own dog with.

If you have a more specific  recommendation request that is not in the list below, I'll see if I can help

Other Trainers

Dog training is an unregulated field, and this means that anyone can set themselves up as a dog trainer with no qualifications or official assessment of skill.  There is also no governing body to hold trainers accountable for poor methods, ethics and welfare. It is therefore incredibly important that you question their background, experience, whether they are a member of any organisations and what their training philosophy is.

All of the below trainers have many years of experience, memberships to organisations such as the ABTC, KCAI, APDT, PPG and PDTE and have a degree in animal training and behaviour.

• Guns and Noses
• Ingenious Dogs
• Just Pet Dogs

• Leads In Action
• Wags and Whiskers

Walkers and Daycare

Anyone working with your dog should be insured and use a force free approach. For dog walkers this should mean that they introduce dogs to a group in a gentle way, they don't use slip leads, prong or e-collars, and inform you if your dog isn't coping in a group walk environment so that you can switch to solo walks or be referred to a different company if that service isn't provided by your current dog walker.

Having worked in dog daycares myself, most are not designed for nervous dogs who struggle socially, some do not have enough structure and routine to support a dogs needs and can cause their own behaviour problems unknowingly. In my experience, most dogs do not cope well in a daycare environment as it can be too overwhelming. Daycares must also be licensed by Hull City Council.

With that being said, below is a list of walkers and doggy daycares that support dogs so that they are more comfortable and confident.

• Pawprints Hull
• Simply K9

• Wags and Whiskers
• Walking With Canines

Dog Grooming Tools

Groomers

A groomer who is patient, understanding and force free is invaluable to reinforcing your dog's bodily autonomy and confidence when being handled. The groomers in the following list often work with nervous dogs and take the time to introduce the environment, tools and process to make grooming visits much less stressful.

• Dogaholics
• Hessle Pet Services
• Pudel Pet Spa

Dogaholics also offer workshops for owners to learn how to  groom their own dog, which is ideal for dogs who have a real fear of strangers but need regular intensive grooms
